A Pandora Update

I may not be the biggest Pandora supporter, but some recent photos and videos may have me changing my tune. I’m not afraid to admit when I’m wrong. I’ve never enjoyed “Avatar” and could barely get through the movie, but Pandora really does look like it’s preparing guests to enter a new world. Disney Parks has been keeping us updated on what’s happening in the world of Pandora and giving some insight into what we will being seeing.

We got a little insight back in November about the Na’vi River Journey, but mostly it’s been just that teaser so far. Yesterday, Disney released a full trailer of the ride and more.

In their newest trailer, Disney gave the viewers a look at not only the Na’vi River Journey, but also the other two major areas of Pandora that Disney guests will be able to explore starting May 27.

The floating mountains are a part of the Valley of Mo’ara. According to the Visit Pandora website, a “travel website” that Disney created as if to make Pandora into a real travel destination, the Valley of Mo’ara will be the first thing that guests see when they visiti Pandora. It will be where guests can hike and follow trails.

The Na’vi River Journey will be down the Kaspavan River. The shaman that we met in the first video leads the guests on a journey down the river, but also sings ancient songs and tells the story of the Na’vi people and the nature around them.

The biggest ride so far in Pandora is it’s only E-ticket ride. AVATAR Flight of Passage was built to mimic the flight of passage of the Na’vi people, in that you become one of them and join their tradition of riding one of the most dangerous creatures in Pandora, the banshee.

Disney did what Disney does best when it comes to planning rides and expansions and that’s creating a storyline. As you might be able to tell from the travel website, there’s a theme to Pandora, that’s more than just a pretty fantasy land. You enter the world much like Jake Sully does in the movie.

Your guide to Pandora is Alpha Centauri Expedition. Although Disney promises that Pandora will fit in with Animal Kingdom, the theme of Pandora is meant to be slightly different from the surrounding areas. It doesn’t quite fit in with Asia or Africa as lands, because Pandora is a whole other planet and ACE is there to make your travel easier. You are supposed to notice that you are in the same place or planet that you used to be.

Has your opinion of Pandora changed? Or are you still wishing Avatar and James Cameron would get out of Disney? Let us know in the comments!
